Locoil produces Farm Fresh Canola Oil on a family farm just outside of Madison, Wisconsin. They needed a new visual identity to sell their product, and a way to differentiate it from the other brands.
This packaging was designed not just to be recognized on the shelf, but so that it also looks good on the kitchen counter. So we drew inspiration from the aesthetics of vintage medicine and food ingredient bottles, as well as the 4th generation farmstead where the oil is produced. Infographics were also created to illustrate Locoil’s “sustainable loop”. Finally, the color palette is derived from the various forms of the main ingredient, as it is grown and processed.
This bottle is unique in that it uses a pump to deliver the oil inside of a pour, so a custom die-cut collar “bib” was created to be used as a drip catch and more advertising space. The labels are also slightly transparent, giving the green color an almost gold appearance when placed over a full bottle, accentuating the natural oil color.
